Clinical Informatics

Clinical Informatics in Vanderbilt’s Department of Biomedical Informatics

DBMI’s clinical informatics will develop and test disruptive and transformative innovations in practices and patient facing information technology, leverging its expertise in data science, coupled with trans-institutional collaborations. Clinical informaticians will create the next generation Electronic Health Record (EHR) system that is intuitive and addresses all of the known problems of today’s EHRs.  The new system will be acknowledged for its ability to improve the health care of millions of people.

Vanderbilt’s flexible and highly functional information technology infrastructure, along with the wealth of nationally-known faculty, many of whom have joint positions in the operational information technology area allows us to externalize all types of data for discovery and to implement workflow-attentive services that translate discovery into care. Our faculty and trainees bring state of the art computational and analytic methods to problems facing healthcare and are able to leverage this laboratory to demonstrate the efficacy and effectiveness of these solutions. Our commitment to multi-disciplinary research allows all aspects of care to be integrated and improved
